    More About Frederick Peter Bailey:
Fred Bailey, the youngest of the five brothers, also had a flair for machinery. After finishing rural school at Scott, he went to KS City, Missouri, to take a mechanic course at an automotive school. Then he came home and found employment at a garage in Oklahoma City. He did not like "city living" and after a few weeks, returned to the farm to help his father. He was married January 1, 1923 to Inez Johnson McCallon and started farming for himself. He too owned steam-powered threshing equipment which he operated during the threshing seasons of the 1920's when the combine came into existence.
Fred was involved in public and community service throughout his lifetime. He served as president and/or secretary of his local Farmer's Union and during World War II was one of the three member Ration Board for Oklahoma County. He was a charter member of the Oklahoma Steam Threshing Association and participated in the Threshing Bee held at Waukomis, Oklahoma every summer for many years.
Fred inherited the family homestead from his mother and passed it on to his two children. He was born on the homestead and a few years after his marriage he purchased the farm joining it on the east. He spent his 79 years on the same half-section of land in Oklahoma County. He retired from farming in 1964 but lived on the farm his entire life.
Fred was an active church member. As a child, the family attended Sunday school and church at the Scott schoolhouse where he was converted and united with the Methodist Church at Yukon. He later was a member of the Putnam City Methodist Church and served there as chairman of the church board. In 1951, he united with a Baptist church and was active in the Highland Hills Baptist Church as long as his health permitted.
Fred worked hard and, like his brothers, possessed those qualities of character and integrity that were the legacy of a wonderful mother and father.

OBITUARY: Posted: Sat Oct 11, 2003 6:25 pm on SpreadEagleRanch.com
    J. D. Leatherwood Rites
Today I found a Bible that had belonged to my grandmother, Mary Ellen Hamilton, nee Dennis. In this Bible was a much yellowed and barely legible newspaper description of the funeral rites of J.D. Leatherwood. The clipping is dated June 17 but I do not know the year. Mama as I called her had often mentioned her cousin Jim Leatherwood to me. She was very fond of him. At the top of the clipping is the following note in my grandmother's handwriting:
?J.D. Leatherwood was my first cousin, Papa's oldest sister's boy (Aunt Polly). We all called him ?Cousin Jim?, W. H. Leatherwood is his son?
    The clipping:
Greenville Texas June 17---Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Merit, northwest of Greenville for J. D. Leatherwood, 85, former business man and banker at Merit. Burial was in the IOOF cemetery at Merit.
