MAUD INDEPENDENCE NICKEL  (04 Jun 1888 - 09 Jan 1900)
 
This  child was the daughter of Francis M. Nickel who was the first postmaster of Miller, Oklahoma. Based on the Bailey family letters it appears that most of this family left Oklahoma before 1920.

The uncontroverted evidence is that the Nickels "homesteaded" this land and lived on it until 1909, when Francis M. Nickel and Mary J. Nickel separated and all the live stock, farming implements and other property were sold at public sale, and Francis M. Nickel took up his residence in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma county, Okla., and Mary J. Nickel went to New Mexico.
